Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019) – Movie Review

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is a Telugu language period action film directed by Surrender Reddy. The film is a work of fiction and is inspired by the life of Indian independence activist Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, who revolted against the atrocities of East India Company.

The film depicts the life of Indian independence activist Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy (Chiranjeevi) from the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The film sets in a time when British East India Company comes to India for business but soon starts to loot and torture the natives. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi, Jagapathi Babu, Nayanthara, Tamannaah, Ravi Kishan, and Nassar in the significant roles.

It is an epic action-adventure film with a great ensemble cast. The story of the film is based on real-life characters but the execution is fictional and filled with over-the-top action sequences. And, I can understand that they made it to play to the mainstream and crowd-pleasing format. The storytelling of the film has some flaws but surely has a patriotic feel to it. The characters are intriguing and compelling. The scale of the film is massive, and the work done on the set design is impressive. The film tells a fascinating story about a rebellion that’s never been explored in cinema. The genre is already very much explored in the cinema, hence the film relies quite a lot on Chiranjeevi’s commanding screen presence, and he does total justice to it.

Verdict : The film is a good-time-watch for an ensemble cast and its action sequences (In a South Indian style).

Rating : 3.6/5
