Mardaani 2 is a crime thriller film directed by Gopi Puthran and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film is a sequel to the 2014 film Mardaani.
The film sets in Kota, Rajasthan, where it follows Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukerji), who has been appointed as the SP (Superintendent of Police) of the city. The film starts with the villain character, a young & ferocious serial killer who is raping & murdering young women. And then Shivani determines to hunt him down. But the rapist keeps on challenging Shivani with his every crime. What comes next is the cat and mouse game between Shivani and the killer.
The film is a nail-biting thriller which without wasting time in any unnecessary subplot or songs sticks to the main plot and delivers a solid story. The runtime of the film is 103 minutes only, which is just appropriate for the film like this. Nowhere the film seems lazy or dragged. The performance by Rani Mukerji as the lead character is once more applauding as she embodied the character perfectly. On the other hand, Vishal Jethwa in the negative psycho character shines all the time as he made it completely believable. By looking at his performance, I was actually filled with hatred for his character. Some of the monologues in the film are just on point and impactful.
The only problem I had while watching this film is that the look and feel of the film, which is not that much grounded and real as I was expecting it to be. I also understood that the makers used this way of crafting to make it sellable and commercial. The film’s topic is very dark but the visuals which are used are just vibrant and colorful, which I don’t know how to take it. Some of the scenes are really intense and that too without showing many visuals, which is appreciating. The background score also contributed well in making the film even more powerful.
Verdict : The film is the tight-bound chilling crime-thriller which will keep you at the edge of your seat.
Rating : 3.8/5
