Housefull 4 is a comedy film directed by Farhad Samji and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The film is the fourth installment of Housefull franchise.
The main aspect of a Housefull film is an ensembling of multiple characters in one place (house), making it Housefull (The story of the film doesn’t matter much). And, once again, this one also does the same with an ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde, and Kriti Kharbanda. The film is a mindless reincarnation comedy film, in which 600 years ago, 3 couples who had parted away due to an evil conspiracy, are getting married in the current times but with the wrong person. And how they find the true love from their past makes the plot of the film. The film also stars Rana Daggubati, Chunky Pandey, Sharad Kelkar, Johnny Lever, Ranjeet, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the supporting roles.
The producers claimed the film to be the highest budgeted Indian comedy film; And which can be seen with an ensemble cast, the grand sets, visual effects, etc. But does this really matter? Absolutely not. What comedy films actually need nowadays is a good conversational and situational comedy; And if it is mashed with some quality content then it is like the cherry on the cake. But this film just lacks it all. The film does have a good plot but it just sticks to the slapstick comedy and creepy jokes. Most of the scenes just feel out of the place and disconnected. The songs in the film are catchy but feel like an overdose. The aspect of the film which I hated the most is the fact that the film is sexist towards women characters, and treats them as objects. The female characters are there just as a showpiece and have nothing much to do (which happens in many Bollywood films).
Verdict : A brainless comedy film which you can skip. But if you are a Akshay Kumar fan, then no one can stop you from watching it. Beware, you’ve been warned.
