Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) – Movie Review

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is an action-adventure film directed by David Leitch and written by Chris Morgan and Drew Pearce. This film is a standalone spin-off of ‘The Fast and the Furious’ film franchise centered around the characters Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), who were first introduced in the main series.

The film is a complete star vehicle, with some of the really well-choreographed action sequences and the equally enjoyable background music complementing those scenes. Even, the songs in the film are pretty delightful. David Leitch has previously directed Atomic Blonde (2017) and Deadpool 2 (2018), hence this film’s genre is his legal territory, where he has delivered very creative and stunning action and chase sequences.

The story of the film is very cliched and predictable but in my opinion, that doesn’t matter for this kind of film. It is a perfect popcorn film for the weekend, where you can just relax and have fun. Some of the scenes in the film feel as stretched. So, finally, the film becomes unnecessarily longer. Like its story, the logic also doesn’t work in this film, if you’re looking for something serious, then it’s not that film. And the best thing about this film is that it is self-aware and honest about its silliness.

The chemistry between Johnson and Statham is just sheer fun to watch. The comedy scenes which are sprinkled now and then works so well. Mainly, when both the leads are trying to level up each other by cracking one-liners or by doing some silly actions or just by staring at each other – is hilarious. And, the deadly bad-guy played by Idris Alba is just the perfect villain for both the leads together, he totally stands out.

Verdict : Have a great action-packed weekend with Hobbs and Shaw.

Rating : 3.4/5
