Men in Black: International (2019) – Movie Review

Men in Black: International is a sci-fi action comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. It is a spin-off and the fourth film in the Men in Black film series.

The film sets at the London branch of Men in Black (MIB), hence the title International. The film revolves around aspiring Molly (Tessa Thompson), who gets recruited by MIB when she comes across some Alien activities on Earth and be able to track down the headquarter of MIB. As a part of her first assignment, Molly, as Agent M, pairs up with Agent H (Chris Hemsworth), who is well-known for saving the Earth along with High T (Liam Neeson) against Alien called as the Hive.

The plot of the film is pretty predictable and flat. The lead characters are the only newness we get in this MIB film. The chemistry between Chris and Tessa is appreciating and works really well, as we’ve already seen them together pairing up in Thor: Ragnarok (2017). Along with the leads, the most enjoyable character in the film is Pawney (Kumail Nanjiani), a tiny adorable warrior Alien. I also liked that the film addresses why it is called as Men in Black and not Women in Black; The same thing was brought up by Dark Phoenix, why it is called as X-Men and not X-Women. The film has so much lazy writing and there are so many loose ends, which were left unexplained.

Verdict : It is an average entry to the Men in Black film series. Watch it only if you’ve totally nothing else to do.

Rating : 2.6/5
