Jab Harry Met Sejal is the Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer rom-com movie, directed by the brilliant storyteller Imtiaz Ali. Unfortunately, except above big names, there is not a single thing which can make you sit in the movie. For the sake of these big names and the money we paid we keep on trying to find the spark in the movie, but it fails miserably in doing that.
As the movie’s genre and the trailers suggest that it’s a romance drama with some flavor of comedy. For the first half an hour of the movie promises so much and it actually sets a simple plot. Sejal (Anushka Sharma) from India lost her engagement ring while on Europe trip and seeks the help of the tour guide Harry (Shahrukh Khan). And the whole story then revolves around Harry and Sejal’s journey across Europe.
The basic flaws are in the story itself, it’s very badly written and fails in engaging the audience. The screenplay is so choppy that there is no resemblance of the two consecutive shots. There is no character building space given and that’s where characters in the movie cannot connect to each other and ultimately disappoints the audience. From the start to the end characters stand in the same place. The audience cannot even connect to their inner conflicts. Till the end movie remains confused and caters zero entertainment value. Even songs are so bad and abrupt that it literally feel sleepy and the audience keeps on waiting for the movie to move forward, or rather to end quickly.
Fundamentally, any good story should be like a baby, which gets older and wiser and gets matured with the time it moves forward. But this one never gets older, we just wait for that level of that maturity to come along, expected by the director and it never comes.
The aura of Shahrukh Khan remains for all the movie time but cannot save the boat. Even the Gujarati accent of Anushka Sharma entertains for some time but gets boring eventually. The story tries to recreate the magic of Jab We Met (2007), on the same journey of two strangers, but the lack of chemistry between its lead characters fails everybody.
Verdict : This one definitely does not deserve your time and money.
